About

Rhonda_Daniels

Herbs in the Garden is Rhonda Daniels-me, a former commercial herb grower and  master gardener who practices organic gardening methods.

Beside herb and veggie gardens, my family raises livestock and poultry for the sheer joy, milk, eggs, and manure they provide. My youngest son also keeps bees on the property for pollination… and honey!

So, a little about my Herb Addiction…

A looong time ago when I was younger, I happened across an herb plant at a sale and a love affair began.

Until that time I really had only used the kind of dried herbs that come in jars.

At the time fresh herbs weren’t something you could find in the produce section at the grocery store, and there was no such thing as the health food stores we know today.

With a few old library books and a lot of trial and error, I leaned to grow my own herbs. I became such an enthusiast I ended up as a small commercial grower. I still grow lots of culinary and medicinal herbs in the garden, and my herbs are still shared with the local community.

I talk to lots of people that dream of a kitchen garden or an herb garden, but just don’t have the space. They will sometimes ask what the best beginner herbs are.

After asking them which herbs they already like, I usually tell them, “Even if you only have room to grow a few herbs in pots, just get started. Try one or two different types and you’ll see how easy it is to grow your own.”

Honestly, herb growing is not difficult. Besides, fresh herbs smell SO good and they are just plain pleasing to have around. The fact that you can actually harvest and use them leaves no reason not to grow a few of your favorites!

There is also some general stuff about gardening and happenings at our little farm- so be warned- not all of it is herb related.
